Hit-&-Run Accidents in Illinois
Hit-and-run accidents have reached an all-time high in recent years. In the United States, there were an estimated 737,100 hit-and-run crashes reported nationwide in 2015. That means a hit-and-run crash happened somewhere in the country every 43 seconds. There were 2,049 deadly hit-and-run collisions reported in 2016, the highest ever recorded figure in the United States. The majority of fatal hit-and-run crashes involve pedestrians and cyclists.
Pedestrians and cyclists have to share the roadways with other motor vehicles. It is the duty of all drivers to safely share the roads with pedestrians and yield the right of way when necessary. Sadly, too many drivers fail to pay attention to areas like crosswalks, and far too often, serious Illinois pedestrian accidents are the result. In many cases, drivers ignore or refuse to respect when pedestrians have the right of way, and the resulting injuries in the event of an accident can be catastrophic.
