Illinois Intersection Collisions

Rockdale, IL - Woman Injured in Crash with Police Vehicle on Morris St

Traveling through a congested intersection can be particularly dangerous. Despite the fact that intersections only make up a small minority of roadways in the United States, they are the location of a significant portion of reported vehicle collisions. Data from the Federal Highway Administration reveals that intersections are the site of nearly 40% of reported crashes, with more than 2.5 million intersection collisions taking place each year. Intersections are the location of nearly half of crashes resulting in injuries and one-quarter of fatal accidents. The majority of intersection collisions involve drivers making left-hand turns.
