Cook County area residents understand that there can be hazards wherever they go. Sometimes these hazards are caused by other people’s negligence. No one ever thinks they will be killed in an unexpected accident due to another person’s negligence, but unfortunately these situations can sometimes not be avoided.

A Northlake man was recently killed in a hit-and-run crash. The man was outside when he was struck by a Jeep Grand Cherokee. The victim was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead soon after. The driver of the Jeep drove off but police were able to locate him recently. He was arrested and charged with aggravated driving under the influence and reckless homicide.

Although most Cook County area residents understand the importance of safe driving, not everyone follows the rules. Many people engage in unsafe driving practices including using a cell phone, texting while driving, drinking and driving, speeding, etc. Any of these activities can cause a serious accident. If a family believes their loved one was injured or killed due to a negligent driver they may want to speak with a legal professional who is skilled in personal injury. An attorney can review the circumstance surrounding the accident by reviewing the police report and interviewing witnesses. They can hold the negligent driver accountable for their mistake. Compensation may be available for medical expenses, funeral expenses, lost wages and other damages.

No one expects their loved one will be seriously injured or killed in a car accident. Unfortunately for many Cook County area residents this has become a reality. A family has the legal right to hold the negligent party responsible for their mistake.
