Medical professor dies in fatal pedestrian car accident

by | Aug 5, 2016 | Uncategorized

It is an unfortunate reality that when an Illinois resident is out on the road as a driver, motorcyclist, bicyclist, or pedestrian, there is a chance that he or she will be involved in a car crash. This can lead to serious injury and even death. Those who are involved in an automobile accident as a pedestrian are perhaps the most vulnerable of all. An accident can happen to anyone at any time, and those who have suffered the loss of a loved one need to be aware of how to pursue compensation in an attempt to recoup their losses.

One family may need to do this now after a professor at a local medical school was killed as a result of being struck by a car while he was jogging. The accident happened not long before 7 a.m. after the driver allegedly lost control of her car. The professor, 74, was a specialist in kidney disease. He was declared dead at the site of the crash. He had been teaching at the school for more than 40 years. The vehicle that hit him was an SUV and, after hitting the professor, it rolled and ended up on its roof. The female driver was unhurt, but her 2-year-old toddler in the backseat was hospitalized and is said to be in good condition. The investigation is ongoing.

Drivers in Illinois are mandated to drive in a way that seeks to ensure the safety of pedestrians. Even with that, there are still accidents that lead to injuries and death involving pedestrians. Whether the accident occurred while the victim was on the sidewalk, in a parking lot, or crossing the street, those who have lost a loved one or had a loved one injured need to understand their legal rights. There can be medical bills, funeral expenses, and the other costs that are frequently forgotten in the aftermath of such a traumatic event, and they can be quite expensive. Having a full investigation and understanding one’s rights is a key to pursuing a claim in hopes of recouping these damages.

Although the investigation into this accident is ongoing, the man’s family may want to immediately seek out an advocate who will protect their interests. Speaking to a qualified legal professional may be a strong first step.
