Illinois hit-and-run kills woman and injures her husband

Traffic laws are in place in Illinois and across the U.S. to make sure that drivers, motorcyclists, bicyclists, and pedestrians share the road and are as safe as possible. When one of these laws is violated, it can lead to an accident with serious injuries and even death. In some instances, a person who is involved in an automobile accident might choose to leave the scene. When there is a hit-and-ru crash, it is important that a full investigation takes place.

One such fatal car accident claimed the life of a 62-year-old woman and sent her 64-year-old husband to the hospital in serious condition. The accident happened at around 7:00 a.m. as a white Jaguar with vanity license plates allegedly ran through a red light and hit the Chevrolet in which the couple was traveling. After the crash, the Chevy spun and hit two other vehicles. The woman was rushed to the hospital afterwards and declared dead not long after. Her husband was hospitalized with serious injuries. After the accident, the driver of the Jaguar departed the scene. Law enforcement has what was described as a “person of interest” in the accident and they believe that alcohol might have played a part.

There can be numerous outcomes when the aftermath of a car crash is settled. The worst case scenario is, if there is a fatal car accident, a family will have to come to grips with the loss of a loved one. Whether the wreck was the result of recklessness, violations of the law, or simply being in the wrong place at the wrong time, there are certain bottom line realities that accompany any such incident. A fatality in a car accident will leave the victim’s family wondering about their future, which may include unexpected expenses and loss of companionship. While a legal filing will not bring a deceased loved one back, it might provide relief from costs that arise due to the loss of a family member.

The best way to try to recover compensation in these instances is often to file a wrongful death lawsuit. When it comes to a hit-and-run accident, the fact that the negligent driver left the scene could serve as strong evidence in such a claim. Those who have experienced the sudden, unexpected, and unnecessary death of a loved one in a car accident may want to speak with a legal professional to determine what next step is right for them.
