Wilmington, IL – Nicholas Ercolini Killed in Wrong-Way Crash on I-55

Wilmington, IL (November 26, 2020) – A Blackstone man was killed in a wrong-way collision near Wilmington on Sunday, November 22. 

The crash reportedly occurred on the northbound lanes of Interstate 55 near milepost 238. According to initial reports, 33-year-old Nicholas Ercolini of Blackstone was traveling north on the highway when he was struck by a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction. Emergency responders were called to the scene to render aid to the injured parties. 

Ercolini was transported to AMITA Health Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, Illinois for the treatment of critical injuries. He was pronounced dead at 12:38 a.m. on Monday, November 23. The cause of the deadly accident is still unknown. 

An ongoing investigation into the crash is being managed by the Illinois State Police.
