Sangamon Co, IL (November 10, 2020) – A multi-vehicle collision in Sangamon County on Monday morning, November 9, resulted in the death of one woman.

The site of the crash was reportedly located near the intersection of IL-54 and Farmingdale Road. According to reports from the Illinois State Police, the collision began when a vehicle driven by 30-year-old Steven Mars of Springfield, Illinois veered into oncoming traffic while traveling west on the highway. Mars then sideswiped a car driven by 29-year-old Kayla Turner before colliding head-on with another vehicle.

The driver of the third vehicle, 38-year-old Annisa Bartletti, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Mars was transported to a nearby medical facility for the treatment of sustained injuries and cited for improper lane usage and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

No further injuries were reported. An ongoing investigation into the accident is underway.

We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of Annisa Bartletti at this time. Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family in hopes of a full recovery.

Despite only making up roughly 2% of reported car crashes each year, head-on impacts are involved in an estimated 10% of fatal crashes in the United States.

The grief and devastation of losing a loved one due to another’s negligence are nearly unbearable. Surviving family members often take on damages resulting from the accident, and they may be able to recover lost compensation by pursuing a wrongful death claim with the help of an experienced Illinois personal injury attorney. In an Illinois wrongful death claim, a representative of the decedent’s estate — usually a close family member — seeks damages from those at fault for the person’s death to obtain compensation for damages.
