Raymond, IL (November 5, 2020) – A Girard man suffered fatal injuries in a collision in Raymond on Wednesday morning, November 4.
The crash reportedly occurred on Interstate 55 at milepost 65. Local officials reported that 56-year-old John Barnes of Girard, Illinois was driving a box truck southbound on the highway at the time of the crash. At the same time, a semi-truck was reportedly pulled over onto the side of the road for unknown reasons.
Barnes reportedly collided with the rear of the semi-truck as it was getting back onto the interstate. Barnes sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the semi, 36-year-old Michel Hegger of Missouri, was uninjured.
An ongoing investigation into the deadly crash is currently underway.
