Newport, IL (November 16, 2020) – Two people were killed following a deadly head-on collision in Newport Township on Friday, November 13.
According to reports from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, the accident occurred at around 7:15 p.m. that evening. A 79-year-old Zion man was reportedly traveling eastbound on Russell Road in a Chevy Express. For unknown reasons, a 29-year-old Winthrop Harbor man was traveling westbound in a Chevy Trailblazer.
For unknown reasons, the driver of the Trailblazer crossed the center line and collided head-on with the Express near Delany Road. Both drivers sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene. The identities of the deceased victims have not been revealed at this time.
An ongoing investigation into the cause of the crash is currently underway.
