Manteno, IL – Driver Killed in Head-On Collision on US-45

Manteno, IL (November 14, 2020) – A man was killed following a two-vehicle collision in the Manteno area on Thursday evening, November 12. 

The deadly crash reportedly occurred on US-45 at around 9:44 p.m. that evening. According to reports from the Illinois State Police, a 2008 Saturn Vue driven by a 64-year-old Elwood woman was traveling north on the highway at the time of the crash. For unknown reasons, a 2010 Nissan Altima was traveling south in the northbound lanes and collided head-on with the other vehicle. 

The Nissan reportedly became engulfed in flames, trapping the driver inside. The man driving the Nissan sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman driving the Saturn was hospitalized for the treatment of sustained injuries. 

No further information on the accident is currently available. An ongoing investigation into the collision is underway.
