by | Nov 23, 2020 | Car Accidents, Injuries

Crestwood, IL (November 23, 2020) – On Saturday, November 21, an officer with the Crestwood Police Department was seriously injured after another vehicle hit his squad car, knocking him to the ground.

The incident reportedly occurred near the 141 block of Cicero Avenue at around 6:40 p.m. that evening. Two officers were reportedly blocking traffic near the scene of another crash. One of the officers returned to his patrol car to gather documents when a southbound 2013 Dodge struck the rear of the vehicle at high speed.

This caused the patrol car to hit the officer and throw him to the ground. The injured victim was taken to Advocate Christ Medical in serious condition. The driver of the Dodge, Anthony Orsi of Chicago, was cited for various traffic violations.

An ongoing investigation into the accident is currently underway.

Our thoughts are with the injured victim and his family at this time. We hope for a full recovery.

Illinois Pedestrian Accidents

Crestwood, IL - Officer Injured Assisting Crash on Cicero Ave

Pedestrians are much more likely to suffer serious injuries when involved in an accident with a motor vehicle. Statistics show that pedestrians have a 1.5 times greater chance of dying in the event of a collision. There were 5,977 pedestrians killed in vehicle collisions across the United States in 2017, an average of one pedestrian fatality every 88 minutes. A total of 4,665 pedestrians were injured in vehicle collisions across Illinois in 2012 alone.

Pedestrians and cyclists have to share the roadways with other motor vehicles. It is the duty of all drivers to safely share the roads with pedestrians and yield the right of way when necessary. Sadly, too many drivers fail to pay attention to areas like crosswalks, and far too often, serious Illinois pedestrian accidents are the result. In many cases, drivers ignore or refuse to respect when pedestrians have the right of way, and the resulting injuries in the event of an accident can be catastrophic.
