Train-Pedestrian Accidents in Chicago

Chicago, IL - Man Injured, Pushed in Front of Train on State St

Pedestrians are extremely vulnerable to suffering life-threatening injuries in the event of a crash. The vast majority of deadly train accidents in the United States involve pedestrians being hit by trains. Since 1997, more than 7,200 pedestrians have been killed in train accidents in the United States. More than 6,400 more pedestrians have been injured in train accidents during that time. An estimated 500 pedestrians are killed annually in train collisions nationwide.

Pedestrians and cyclists have to share the roadways with other motor vehicles. It is the duty of all drivers to safely share the roads with pedestrians and yield the right of way when necessary. Sadly, too many drivers fail to pay attention to areas like crosswalks, and far too often, serious Illinois pedestrian accidents are the result. In many cases, drivers ignore or refuse to respect when pedestrians have the right of way, and the resulting injuries in the event of an accident can be catastrophic.
