Deadly Pedestrian Accidents in Illinois
Pedestrians have little protecting them from the full impact of a serious collision, and this means that pedestrian accidents are over-represented in national roadway fatalities each year. Statistics show that pedestrians are roughly 1.5 times more likely to be killed in the event of a crash compared to a passenger vehicle occupant. In 2017, a total of 5,977 pedestrians were killed in car crashes nationwide, with a pedestrian dying every 88 minutes on average.
