Hit-&-Run Accidents in Illinois

Yorkville, IL - Pedestrian Injured in Hit-&-Run at IL-71 & IL-47

Since 2006, there have been an average of 682,000 hit-and-run crashes reported annually across the United States. Deadly hit-and-runs have reached an all-time high in recent years, with more people dying in hit-and-run accidents than ever. The vast majority of fatal hit-and-run cases involve pedestrians or cyclists who are more likely to suffer from severe injuries. Since 2009, fatal hit-and-runs have increased by an estimated 7.2% each year.

Pedestrians and cyclists have to share the roadways with other motor vehicles. It is the duty of all drivers to safely share the roads with pedestrians and yield the right of way when necessary. Sadly, too many drivers fail to pay attention to areas like crosswalks, and far too often, serious Illinois pedestrian accidents are the result. In many cases, drivers ignore or refuse to respect when pedestrians have the right of way, and the resulting injuries in the event of an accident can be catastrophic.
