Springfield, IL – Two Injured in Train-Vehicle Collision on Sangamon Ave

Springfield, IL (October 4, 2020) – There were reported injuries following a crash involving a train and a passenger car in Springfield on Friday, October 2. 

The collision reportedly occurred near the intersection of Sangamon Avenue and Camp Butler Road. Emergency responders were notified of the accident at around 4:27 p.m. Two people, an elderly man and woman, were traveling in a passenger car at the time of the crash. 

The vehicle reportedly stopped on the railroad tracks for unknown reasons. The vehicle was then rear-ended by a pickup truck before being struck by the train. The driver of the truck was reportedly able to escape before the train came. 

The injured man and woman were transported to a nearby hospital for the treatment of sustained injuries. An ongoing investigation into the accident is currently underway.
