Rockford, IL (October 2, 2020) – A woman was injured and another man was arrested following an alleged drunk driving accident in the Rockford area on Monday, September 28.
According to reports from the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office, 28-year-old Benjamin Welter collided with a pickup truck at around 8:30 p.m. at the 5500 block of Kilburn Avenue. A woman traveling in his vehicle reportedly sustained life-threatening injuries and was taken to a nearby medical facility for treatment. Welter reportedly fled the scene following the accident.
Welter was later found at his home in the Machesney Park area and was taken into custody on Thursday, October 1. He was charged with five counts of aggravated driving under the influence. No further updates on the accident have been provided at this time.
An ongoing investigation into the cause of the crash is underway.
