Rockford, IL – Man Killed in Apartment Fire Explosion on Lapey St

Rockford, IL (October 1, 2020) – There were fatal injuries following a home explosion in a residential area of Rockford on Monday night, September 28. 

The site of the incident was reportedly located at a residence at the 2800 block of Lapey Street. One man was killed and two others suffered injuries in the explosion. Multiple calls came into the Rockford Fire Department about the incident that evening. 

When authorities arrived, they reported a large fire inside an apartment complex. Two men were thrown from the building due to the blast and were transported to a nearby medical facility for treatment. Another man underneath debris after the fire had been extinguished and was pronounced dead at the scene.

At this time, the cause of the incident has not been revealed. The relationship between the involved parties has not been determined. 

An ongoing investigation into the incident is underway.
