Peoria, IL (October 3, 2020) – A Mackinew man was killed after being involved in a collision with a semi-truck in Peoria on Thursday evening, October 1.
The collision reportedly took place on Interstate 474 near the exit for Farmington Road. The Illinois State Police reported that a Chevrolet Avalanche and a semi-truck collided on the highway at around 8:10 p.m. Emergency responders and law enforcement officials were dispatched to the scene to render aid to those involved.
Initial reports revealed that 18-year-old Trenton R. Mitchell from Mackinew, Illinois crossed the centerline on the roadway and collided head-on with the 18-wheeler. The 23-year-old man driving the Freightliner was unable to avoid the accident. Mitchell suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the truck was hospitalized for the treatment of sustained injuries. An ongoing investigation into the crash is underway.
