Jefferson Co, IL – Truck Driver Injured in Semi-Truck Accident on I-57

by | Oct 2, 2020 | Car Accidents, Injuries

Jefferson Co, IL (October 2, 2020) – A collision involving two semi-trucks in Jefferson County left one truck driver injured on Thursday, October 1.

Initial reports revealed that the accident occurred on Interstate 57 near mile marker 102 at around 11 a.m. According to local law enforcement officials, a 2016 Freightliner truck tractor semi-trailer was traveling on the highway when it rear-ended another semi that had come to a stop on the roadway. The second commercial truck reportedly stopped due to a construction zone on the highway.

The 30-year-old Quebec man operating the red Freightliner was taken to a nearby hospital for the treatment of sustained injuries. The driver and passenger in the other truck refused medical treatment at the scene. The southbound lanes on the interstate were closed for many hours following the collision.

An ongoing investigation into the crash is underway.

Our thoughts are with the injured victim and his family at this time. We hope for a full recovery.

Semi-Truck Accidents in Illinois

Jefferson Co, IL - Truck Driver Injured in Semi-Truck Accident on I-57

Commercial trucks are often involved in collisions, with an estimated 500,000 trucking accidents taking place each year across the country. These massive vehicles can inflict life-changing injuries in the event of a crash, and thousands lose their lives in semi-truck accidents each year. There were 12,267 trucking collisions reported across Illinois in 2018, accounting for roughly 3.8% of reported crashes that year. A total of 2,075 semi-truck accidents in the state that year resulted in injuries.

Large semi-trucks can cause catastrophic injuries in the event of a collision with a passenger vehicle. Truck-driver inexperience is a leading cause of deadly commercial vehicle accidents as companies are trying to fill positions due to a shortage of drivers, and this negligence contributes to serious crashes involving 18-wheelers and commercial vehicles. When the negligence of another driver results in a crash, injured victims should consult with an Illinois trucking injury lawyer in order to recover lost compensation by pursuing a personal injury claim.
