Coles Co, IL – Man Killed in Stop Sign Crash at Lerna Rd & Old State Rd

Coles Co, IL (October 29, 2020) – One man was killed and a woman injured following a collision in Coles County on Tuesday, October 27. 

The crash reportedly occurred near the intersection of Lerna Road and Old State Road at around 12:30 p.m. that afternoon. Local reports revealed that an 89-year-old Charleston man was traveling east on Old State Road at the time of the accident. For unknown reasons, the man failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with another vehicle. 

The man sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The 18-year-old Toledo woman driving the other vehicle was injured and taken to a nearby medical facility for treatment. The identities of the involved parties have not been released at this time. 

An ongoing investigation into the accident is currently underway.
