Pedestrian Accidents in Chicago
Being involved in a serious pedestrian accident can leave victims suffering from serious injuries. Pedestrian fatalities continue to rise across the country while other types of vehicle fatalities are on the decline. The Illinois Department of Transportation reported that there were 4,930 pedestrian accidents reported across the state in 2012. That year, 4,665 pedestrians in the state sustained injuries in collisions.
Pedestrians and cyclists have to share the roadways with other motor vehicles. It is the duty of all drivers to safely share the roads with pedestrians and yield the right of way when necessary. Sadly, too many drivers fail to pay attention to areas like crosswalks, and far too often, serious Illinois pedestrian accidents are the result. In many cases, drivers ignore or refuse to respect when pedestrians have the right of way, and the resulting injuries in the event of an accident can be catastrophic.
