Hit-&-Run Accidents in Chicago
Hit-and-run collisions are increasing at an alarming rate across the country. There were 737,100 hit-and-run accidents reported nationwide in 2015, with a hit-and-run occurring every 43 seconds on average. The overwhelming majority of deadly hit-and-run accidents involve pedestrians and cyclists who are often unable to obtain the medical treatment necessary after being struck by a motor vehicle.
Pedestrians and cyclists have to share the roadways with other motor vehicles. It is the duty of all drivers to safely share the roads with pedestrians and yield the right of way when necessary. Sadly, too many drivers fail to pay attention to areas like crosswalks, and far too often, serious Illinois pedestrian accidents are the result. In many cases, drivers ignore or refuse to respect when pedestrians have the right of way, and the resulting injuries in the event of a Chicago pedestrian accident can be catastrophic.
