Chicago Hit-&-Run Accidents
Fatal hit-and-run collisions are rising at an alarming rate across the country. There were a reported 737,100 hit-and-run collisions nationwide in 2015. That year, a hit-and-run crash happened somewhere in the United States every 43 seconds on average. There were 2,049 reports hit-and-run fatalities in 2016, the highest figure on record. The vast majority of deadly hit-and-run collisions involve pedestrians or cyclists.
Pedestrians and cyclists have to share the roadways with other motor vehicles. It is the duty of all drivers to safely share the roads with pedestrians and yield the right of way when necessary. Sadly, too many drivers fail to pay attention to areas like crosswalks, and far too often, serious Illinois pedestrian accidents are the result. In many cases, drivers ignore or refuse to respect when pedestrians have the right of way, and the resulting injuries in the event of an accident can be catastrophic.
