Trucking Accidents in Illinois

Wauconda, IL - One Killed in Box-Truck Collision on US-12

When traveling at highway speeds, a fully loaded commercial truck can cause a devastating collision. More than 5,000 people are killed annually in crashes involving large semi-trucks, with the majority of fatalities involving occupants of passenger vehicles. According to data from the Illinois Department of Transportation, there were 12,267 trucking accidents reported across the state in 2018, accounting for nearly 3.4% of reported accidents. That year, 106 trucking collisions in Illinois resulted in fatal injuries.

Large semi-trucks can cause catastrophic injuries in the event of a collision with a passenger vehicle. Truck-driver inexperience is a leading cause of deadly commercial vehicle accidents as companies are trying to fill positions due to a shortage of drivers, and this negligence contributes to serious crashes involving 18-wheelers and commercial vehicles. When the negligence of another driver results in a crash, injured victims should consult with an Illinois trucking injury lawyer in order to recover lost compensation by pursuing a personal injury claim.
