Pike Co, IL (September 24, 2020) – One man was killed and another was critically injured after being involved in a single-vehicle collision in Pike County on Tuesday afternoon, September 22.
The crash reportedly occurred on County Highway 10 about one mile east of IL-96. At around 3:30 p.m., a 1998 Chevrolet sport-utility vehicle was traveling westbound on the roadway when the vehicle ran off the roadway for unknown reasons. The vehicle collided with a tree, causing the passenger to be ejected.
The driver of the vehicle, 30-year-old Joe Luis Parra Palma of Monroe City, Missouri, was partially ejected from the vehicle. Palma was pronounced dead at the scene by responding emergency units. The vehicle’s passenger, 30-year-old Felipe Galan Almaraz also from Monroe City, was airlifted to Mercy Hospital in St. Louis in serious condition.
The cause of the accident has not been made public at this time. An ongoing investigation into the crash is currently underway.
