Deadly High-Speed Crashes in Illinois

Peoria, IL - Jazzman Burns, Three Others Killed in Deadly Crash on Washington St

Speeding is a factor in a significant portion of deadly car accidents in the United States. Over the past two decades, speeding has been involved in nearly one-third of the nation’s traffic fatalities, and thousands are killed by speeding drivers each year. In 2018 alone, a reported 9,378 people were killed in high-speed collisions, an average of 25 deaths per day. An estimated 26% of traffic fatalities that year were attributable to speeding.

The grief and devastation of losing a loved one due to another’s negligence are nearly unbearable. Surviving family members often take on damages resulting from the accident, and they may be able to recover lost compensation by pursuing a wrongful death claim with the help of an experienced Illinois personal injury attorney. In an Illinois wrongful death claim, a representative of the decedent’s estate — usually a close family member — seeks damages from those at fault for the person’s death to obtain compensation for damages.
