Deadly Pedestrian Accidents in Illinois

Peoria, IL - Allen Hullin Fatally Struck by Motorcycle on W Plank Rd

Pedestrians are at greater risk of suffering from life-threatening injuries in the event of an accident. In 2018, a pedestrian was killed every 88 minutes on average. There were 4,930 reported pedestrian accidents in Illinois in 2012. That year, a total of 139 pedestrians were killed in vehicle collisions across the state, and 4,665 sustained serious injuries. Nearly 890 injured pedestrians in Illinois that year required treatment in emergency rooms for injuries sustained in a collision.

The grief and devastation of losing a loved one due to another’s negligence are nearly unbearable. Surviving family members often take on damages resulting from the accident, and they may be able to recover lost compensation by pursuing a wrongful death claim with the help of an experienced Illinois pedestrian injury attorney. In an Illinois wrongful death claim, a representative of the decedent’s estate — usually a close family member — seeks damages from those at fault for the person’s death to obtain compensation for damages.
