Peoria Co, IL (September 25, 2020) – On Thursday, September 24, two truck drivers suffered injuries after being involved in a head-on collision in Peoria County.

The collision reportedly occurred on Interstate 74 WB near milepost 84. At around 5 p.m., a semi-truck driven by 36-year-old Anthony Abernathy of Mississippi crossed the median for unknown reasons. Abernathy’s truck collided head-on with another semi-truck traveling east on the highway.

Abernathy was taken to a nearby hospital for the treatment of life-threatening injuries. The other truck driver, identified as 58-year-old Scott Williams of Indiana, was also hospitalized following the accident. No further updates on the conditions of the crash victims have been provided.

An ongoing investigation into the cause of the accident is currently in progress.

Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families at this time. We hope for their full recovery.

Semi-Truck Accidents in Illinois

Peoria Co, IL - Scott Williams Injured in Head-On Semi Accident on I-74

The weight and force of a fully-loaded commercial truck can inflict life-changing injuries. Nearly 500 truck drivers are killed each year in trucking collisions across the country. In Illinois, there were 12,267 trucking accidents reported across the state in 2018, making up nearly 3.8% of reported collisions that year. There were 106 trucking accidents in Illinois resulting in fatal injuries, and 2,075 semi-truck crashes resulted in injuries across the state.

Large semi-trucks can cause catastrophic injuries in the event of a collision with a passenger vehicle. Truck-driver inexperience is a leading cause of deadly commercial vehicle accidents as companies are trying to fill positions due to a shortage of drivers, and this negligence contributes to serious crashes involving 18-wheelers and commercial vehicles. When the negligence of another driver results in a crash, injured victims should consult with an Illinois trucking injury lawyer in order to recover lost compensation by pursuing a personal injury claim.
