Newark, IL (September 1, 2020) – On Sunday, August 30, two people sustained injuries in a motorcycle accident in the Newark area. The crash occurred near the intersection of IL-71 and Townhouse Road at around 2:59 p.m. that afternoon.
Emergency responders and law enforcement officials were called to the site of the crash to render aid to those injured in the collision. Initial revealed that Domingo Fietes and a passenger were traveling by motorcycle southbound on IL-71 at the time of the accident. For unknown reasons, Fietes’ motorcycle sideswiped a vehicle making a left turn onto Townhouse Road.
Both Fietes and his passenger were treated at the scene by Newark Fire Protection District. The severity of the resulting injuries is not known at this time. No updates on the conditions of the injured parties have been provided.
An ongoing investigation into the cause of the crash is currently underway.
Our thoughts are with Domingo Fietes, the other injured victim, and their families at this time. We hope for their full recovery.
Motorcycle Accidents in Illinois
Traveling by motorcycle comes with a great degree of freedom, but with that freedom also comes inherent risks. Motorcyclists are more likely to suffer fatal injuries in the event of a crash, and statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration show that riders are nearly 27 times more likely to be killed in a collision. More than 5,000 motorcyclists are killed in vehicle collisions across the country each year. Many of these collisions involve drivers who fail to yield to riders.
Even though motorcyclists are also misrepresented as careless and reckless, statistics show that motor vehicle drivers are more likely to cause serious motorcycle accidents. These cases involve extensive investigation in order to determine who is at fault for the crash, meaning that an experienced legal team is often necessary to construct a strong case. Injured parties should reach out to a qualified Illinois motorcycle crash attorney to discuss their legal options before pursuing an Illinois personal injury claim for lost damages.
