Motorcycle Accidents in Illinois
Motorcyclists are often involved in serious collisions for many reasons. The design of a motorcycle leaves the rider much more exposed to the dangers of the road. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, motorcyclists are nearly 27 times more likely to be killed in the event of a crash, and nearly 80% of motorcycle accidents result in death or injury. Motorcycle accidents are over-represented in national roadway fatalities, accounting for 15.8% of fatal crashes in Illinois in 2011.
Even though motorcyclists are also misrepresented as careless and reckless, statistics show that motor vehicle drivers are more likely to cause serious motorcycle accidents. These cases involve extensive investigation in order to determine who is at fault for the crash, meaning that an experienced legal team is often necessary to construct a strong case. Injured parties should reach out to a qualified Illinois motorcycle crash attorney to discuss their legal options before pursuing an Illinois personal injury claim for lost damages.
