Galatia, IL (September 17, 2020) – Two teen drivers were injured following an alleged drunk driving accident in Saline County on Saturday morning, September 12.

At around 12:35 a.m. that morning, a 2009 Ford F-250 pickup truck driven by a 17-year-old from Galatia was traveling northbound on Mt. Moriah Road, around half a mile north of Land Road. For unknown reasons, the driver failed to navigate a curve on the road and left the roadway, overturning in a nearby ditch. Both the driver and his passenger, a 17-year-old from Marion, Illinois, sustained injuries in the crash and were hospitalized.

The driver was charged by authorities with driving under the influence of alcohol, illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor, and failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash. No updates on the conditions of the injured parties have been provided at this time. No further information is currently available.

An ongoing investigation into the cause of the accident is currently in progress.

Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families at this time. We hope for their full recovery.

Drunk Driving Crashes in Illinois

Galatia, IL - Two Injured in DUI Collision on Mt Moriah Rd

Drunk driving is a serious safety concern in the United States. Despite awareness campaigns intended to combat the epidemic of intoxicated drivers, far too many drivers choose to get behind the wheel after having one too many. There were 10,497 people killed in drunk driving accidents in the United States in 2016, accounting for roughly 28% of traffic fatalities that year. Every day, an estimated 30 people are killed by drunk drivers, an average of one death every 50 minutes.

The financial impact of medical care, repair bills, and lost wages can be extremely disruptive to our lives and leave accident victims in a difficult financial and emotional situation.
