Motorcycle Crashes in Illinois

Douglass Co, IL - Motorcyclist Injured in Crash on IL-130

Motorcyclists are much more vulnerable to the dangers of the road and are more likely to suffer life-threatening injuries in the event of a crash. The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration found that around 80% of motorcycle crashes result in death or injury, and riders are nearly 27 times more likely to be killed in a crash compared to those traveling in passenger cars. In 2017, motorcycle crashes only accounted for 1.1% of collisions reported in Illinois, but that year, motorcycle fatalities were involved in roughly 15.4% of fatal accidents across the state.

Even though motorcyclists are also misrepresented as careless and reckless, statistics show that motor vehicle drivers are more likely to cause serious motorcycle accidents. These cases involve extensive investigation in order to determine who is at fault for the crash, meaning that an experienced legal team is often necessary to construct a strong case. Injured parties should reach out to a qualified Illinois motorcycle crash attorney to discuss their legal options before pursuing an Illinois personal injury claim for lost damages.
