Chicago Ridge, IL (September 19, 2020) – An attempted traffic stop ended with a Chicago man suffering fatal injuries and another man being injured in the Chicago Ridge area on Friday morning, September 18.

A trooper with the Illinois State Police reportedly tried to pull over a driver, later identified as 22-year-old Alonte D. London of Chicago, near the intersection of I-57 and Vollmer Road near Matteson at around 12:30 a.m. London fled the scene of the accident, and the traffic stop was terminated by the ISP.

Authorities in Chicago Ridge were later notified that the vehicle had crashed near the intersection of 95th Street and Ridgeland Avenue. Local reports revealed that London was traveling at a high rate of speed when he ran a red light and collided with another vehicle traveling south on Ridgeland Avenue.

London was ejected from his vehicle and sustained fatal injuries. The driver of the other vehicle was injured and transported to a nearby hospital for the treatment of serious injuries.

An ongoing investigation into the accident is underway.

We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of Alonte D. London at this time. Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family in hopes of a full recovery.

Red Light Crashes in Illinois

Chicago Ridge, IL - One Killed, Another Injured at 95th St & Ridgeland Ave

Intersections are a magnet for serious collisions. When drivers fail to obey traffic control devices, they are more likely to cause catastrophic car accidents. On average, there are nearly 165,000 car accidents caused by red-light runners across the country. There are an estimated 700 to 800 fatalities involving red-light collisions each year. Around one-quarter of all traffic fatalities occur at intersections each year, along with around half of car accidents resulting in injuries.

Car crash victims often find themselves struggling to learn their rights in time to protect them after an accident.
