Chicago, IL (September 1, 2020) – A state trooper suffered injuries after being rear-ended by a suspected drunk driver in Chicago on Sunday, August 30. Initial reports revealed that the crash occurred on the West Side near the intersection of Interstate 290 (Eisenhower Expressway) and Central Park Avenue at around 1:15 a.m.
According to local sources, the trooper was stopped in his patrol vehicle with his lights on while filling out paperwork at the time of the crash. A 2001 Pontiac Bonneville rear-ended the patrol car for unknown reasons. The trooper sustained injuries in the collision.
The driver of the Pontiac was identified as 46-year-old Alberto R. Hilbelink of Cicero, Illinois. Hilbelink was charged with driving under the influence. He was also cited for violating Scott’s Law, improper lane usage, and failure to reduce speed to avoid a collision.
No further updates on the collision are currently available. An ongoing investigation into the accident is in progress.
