Motorcycle Crashes in Chicago
Motorcyclists are more likely to sustain serious injuries in the event of a crash, and motorcycle accidents are over-represented in national roadway fatalities. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration found that nearly 80% of motorcycle accidents result in fatality or injury, and motorcyclists are around 27 times more likely to be killed in the event of a crash. In Illinois, motorcycle accidents were only involved in 1.1% of the 311,679 collisions reported statewide in 2017. However, motorcycle accidents accounted for nearly 15.4% of deadly collisions in the state that year.
Motorcycles are much smaller than other motor vehicles and lack adequate protection for their riders, leaving them at serious risk of injury, and many drivers are constantly distracted by passengers, other drivers, and technology, making them more likely to ignore a motorcyclist and cause a devastating accident. Motorcyclists are at greater risk of suffering life-threatening injuries in the event of an accident, and the resulting damages can change a victim’s life forever. It is important to have someone on your side aggressively representing your rights after being injured in an Illinois motorcycle accident.
