Deadly Motorcycle Accidents in Illinois
Riding a motorcycle is a way of life for many Illinois residents, and the unique sense of freedom it offers is unrivaled. However, riders are much more likely to be seriously or fatally injured in the event of a crash. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, nearly 80% of motorcycle accidents result in fatality or injury. Of all the collisions reported in Illinois in 2017, only 1.1% involved motorcycle accidents. However, motorcyclists were involved in nearly 15.4% of deadly car accidents in the state that year.
The grief and devastation of losing a loved one due to another’s negligence are nearly unbearable. Surviving family members often take on damages resulting from the accident, and they may be able to recover lost compensation by pursuing a wrongful death claim with the help of an experienced Illinois motorcycle crash attorney. In an Illinois wrongful death claim, a representative of the decedent’s estate — usually a close family member — seeks damages from those at fault for the person’s death to obtain compensation for damages.
