Altamont, IL (September 12, 2020) – Two people sustained injuries following a car accident in the Altamont area on Tuesday, September 8.

Initial reports revealed that a vehicle driven by a 17-year-old Altamont man was traveling east on IL-128 just past midnight in the southern area of Altamont. For unknown reasons, the driver lost control of the vehicle when navigating a curve on the roadway. The vehicle left the roadway, crossed into a residential yard, before hitting a tree and utility pole.

The vehicle came to a stop upright in the yard and then caught fire. The driver was injured along with his passenger, 21-year-old Brandon Bryan of Effingham, Illinois. Bryan was airlifted to HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Illinois for treatment, and the driver was taken by ambulance to St. Anthony’s.

The driver was cited for failure to reduce speed and driving without a valid license. An ongoing investigation into the crash is underway.

Our thoughts are with Brandon Bryan, the other injured victim, and their families at this time. We hope for their full recovery.
