Wilmette, IL (August 13, 2020) – Early on Thursday morning, August 13, a total of five people reportedly suffered injuries following a collision in Wilmette at around 5:30 a.m. The crash reportedly occurred on the southbound lanes of the Edens Expressway near Glenview Road.

Initial reports revealed that the accident involved a group of motorcyclists and a vehicle towing a trailer. According to reports from the Illinois State Police, one of the motorcyclists and another vehicle were involved in a collision, causing the vehicle towing the trailer to lose control and collide with a nearby wall.

Three people on motorcycles reportedly crashed and transported to Evanston Hospital for the treatment of sustained injuries. Two occupants inside the other vehicle were taken to Stoke Hospital for treatment, according to the ISP.

The area of the crash was blocked while investigators and emergency responders were present. At this time, no further updates on the conditions of the injured parties have been provided.

An ongoing investigation into the crash is being managed by local law enforcement officials.

Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families at this time. We hope for their full recovery.

Motorcycle Crashes in Illinois

Wilmette, IL - Five Injured in Collision at Edens Expy & Glenview Rd

Motorcyclists are much more vulnerable to hazards on the road than those traveling in larger passenger cars. Slight annoyances to other motorists, such as potholes and uneven pavement, can be detrimental to a motorcyclist and cause a serious collision. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, nearly 80% of motorcycle crashes result in injuries or death. Motorcyclists are over-represented in fatal collisions in Illinois. According to data from the Illinois Department of Transportation, there were 3,756 motorcycle accidents reported across the state in 2011. These accidents contributed to the deaths of 145 motorcyclists and 3,020 suffering injuries. Motorcycle accidents only accounted for roughly 1.3% of reported collisions in Illinois that year, but motorcycle accidents were involved in 15.8% of deadly crashes reported in 2011.

Even though motorcyclists are also misrepresented as careless and reckless, statistics show that motor vehicle drivers are more likely to cause serious motorcycle accidents. These cases involve extensive investigation in order to determine who is at fault for the crash, meaning that an experienced Illinois personal injury lawyer is often necessary to construct a strong case. Injured parties should reach out to a qualified Illinois motorcycle crash attorney to discuss their legal options before pursuing an Illinois personal injury claim for lost damages.
