Deadly Pedestrian Accidents in Illinois

Tinley Park, IL - Pedestrian Killed at 80th Ave & Timber Dr

Pedestrians are much more likely to suffer fatal injuries in the event of a collision. There is little protecting a pedestrian from the full impact of a crash involving a motor vehicle. While other types of deadly car accidents are on the decline, fatal pedestrian collisions are on the rise across the country.

The majority of deadly pedestrian crashes in Illinois take place in Cook County. Data from the Illinois Department of Transportation reveals that there were a total of 4,930 pedestrian accidents reported across the state in 2012. A reported 139 pedestrians were killed in these collisions, and another 4,665 suffered injuries, with 890 pedestrians suffering “Type A” or critical injuries.

The grief and devastation of losing a loved one due to another’s negligence are nearly unbearable. Surviving family members often take on damages resulting from the accident, and they may be able to recover lost compensation by pursuing a wrongful death claim with the help of an experienced Illinois pedestrian accident attorney. In an Illinois wrongful death claim, a representative of the decedent’s estate — usually a close family member — seeks damages from those at fault for the person’s death to obtain compensation for damages.

At Kent M. Lucaccioni, Ltd., we understand the grief and pain that families experience when a family member is killed.
