Peoria, IL – Four Injured in Drunk Driving Crash on Monroe St

Peoria, IL (August 15, 2020) – A fire apparatus in Peoria was struck by an alleged drunk driver on Friday, August 14, injuring three firemen inside the truck as well as the suspected drunk driver. The incident took place at around 1 a.m. that morning at the 505 block of NE Monroe Street. 

According to local reports, Peoria Fire Department’s Engine 20 was in the process of returning from a call when it was struck by another vehicle on NE Monroe Street. The impact caused the fire engine to spin 180 degrees before overturning. The fire engine was in the process of crossing an intersection when it was struck in the rear driver’s side. 

The apparatus reportedly sustained damage in the crash. Three firefighters traveling inside the vehicle were transported to a nearby medical facility for treatment, along with the drunk driver. No updates on the conditions of the injured parties have been provided at this time. 

The driver who struck the fire engine was cited for multiple charges, including driving under the influence, disobeying a traffic control signal, failure to wear a seat belt, illegal transportation of alcohol, and using an electronic communication device while driving.

An ongoing investigation into the crash is being managed by local law enforcement officials.
