Bicycle Accidents in Illinois

Morton Grove, IL - Cyclist Injured at Dempster St & Lehigh Ave

As expected, when a bicycle is involved in a crash with a motor vehicle, the rider is more likely to sustain serious injuries. More Americans are choosing bikes for their daily commute and to get around. In 2018, there were 857 cyclists killed in deadly bicycle crashes in the United States. The majority of cycling accidents take place in urban areas, accounting for nearly 75% of reported bicycle crashes nationwide. Around 37% of deadly bicycle accidents in 2017 involved alcohol.

Bicycles are much smaller than other vehicles and lack adequate protection for their riders, leaving them at serious risk of injury, and many drivers are constantly distracted by passengers, other drivers, and technology, making them more likely to ignore a motorcyclist and cause a devastating accident. Cyclists are at greater risk of suffering life-threatening injuries in the event of an accident, and the resulting damages can change a victim’s life forever. It is important to have someone on your side aggressively representing your rights after being injured in an Illinois bicycle accident.
