Lena, IL (August 30, 2020) – The driver of a delivery van was killed after being fatally struck by a train in a rural area of Lena on Friday afternoon, August 28. The deadly accident reportedly took place on N. Baker Road north of W. Galena Road at around 1:30 p.m.
According to reports from the Stephenson County Sheriff’s Office, a 2018 white Econoline E350 was traveling southbound on Baker Road a the time of the accident. The vehicle was struck by a westbound train at a railroad crossing near Galena Road. The impact caused the driver of the van to be ejected from the vehicle.
They were pronounced dead at the scene by responding paramedics. At this time, the identity of the deceased party has not been reported and currently awaiting notification from next of kin. The cause of the crash is still unknown.
No further updates on the accident have been provided. An ongoing investigation into the crash is being conducted by local law enforcement officials.
