Homer, IL (August 7, 2020) – Two people were sent to the hospital following a multi-vehicle collision in Homer on Thursday afternoon, August 6. The crash took place near the intersection of IL-49 (County Road 2700 East) and Homer Lake Road at around 2:35 p.m.

According to reports from the Illinois State Police, 35-year-old Cory Kalber from Effingham, Illinois was driving a van northbound on Illinois State Route 49 north of Homer Lake Road when he drifted into the southbound lanes of the highway. Kalber proceeded to sideswipe a Jeep traveling south driven by 59-year-old Steven Cary of Bridgeport, Illinois. Kalber’s van continued down the highway, striking the front passenger side of a semi-truck.

Both Kalber and the driver of the commercial vehicle, 73-year-old David Perry of Homer, were transported to a nearby medical facility for the treatment of sustained injuries. Kalber was cited by authorities for improper lane usage.

At this time, no further information on the crash has been provided. An ongoing investigation into the accident is being conducted by local law enforcement officials.

Our thoughts are with David Perry, Cory Kalber, and their families at this time. We hope for their full recovery.
