Gilman, IL (August 27, 2020) – A 70-year-old man was killed following a single-vehicle collision near Gilman on Wednesday, August 26, in Iroquois County.
According to reports from the Illinois Police Department, the crash occurred on the northbound lanes of Interstate 57 near mile marker 282 that afternoon at around 12:22 p.m. Frank W. Horn from Burbank, Illinois was reportedly traveling north on the highway in a 2008 Ford Focus at the time of the crash. For unknown reasons, the vehicle left the roadway and collided with a fence and a tree before coming to a stop.
Horn, the driver, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Iroquois County coroner. A 79-year-old Oak Lawn woman traveling in the front passenger seat was taken to a nearby medical facility for the treatment of sustained injuries. No updates on the condition of the injured passenger have been provided at this time.
An ongoing investigation into the cause of the accident is being managed by local law enforcement officials.
