Initial reports revealed that a pickup truck pulling a trailer was waiting on the left shoulder of the highway near milepost 23. The driver of the truck was standing next to the vehicle when he and the vehicle were struck by a tractor-trailer at around 1:35 p.m. The oncoming tractor-trailer sideswiped the pickup truck and the driver, according to local sources.

An ongoing investigation into the accident is currently underway.

Our thoughts are with the injured victim and his family at this time. We hope for a full recovery.

Pedestrian Accidents in Illinois

Pedestrians are at increased risk of suffering life-threatening injuries in the event of a crash involving a crash involving a motor vehicle. In 2018, a pedestrian was killed in a vehicle collision every 88 minutes on average. The vast majority of pedestrian crashes in Illinois take place in Cook County. There were 4,930 reported pedestrian accidents in Illinois in 2012. Sadly, too many drivers fail to pay attention to areas like crosswalks, and far too often, serious Illinois pedestrian accidents are the result.
