Chicago, IL (August 17, 2020) – The driver of an Illinois Department of Transportation maintenance truck was injured following a collision in the Chicago area just before 2 a.m. on Sunday, August 16. Local sources revealed that the crash occurred on the city’s Near West Side on Interstate 94 (Dan Ryan Expressway) near Roosevelt Road.

According to initial reports, a fully marked police vehicle and the IDOT truck were blocking the lanes of the Dan Ryan Expressway exit ramp to Roosevelt Road at the time of the accident. A 2005 blue Dodge Caravan traveling on the highway failed to reduce speed and collided with the rear of the truck. Authorities reported that the 70-year-old man driving the truck was inside at the time of the impact.

The truck driver was transported to a nearby hospital for the treatment of sustained injuries. The driver of the Dodge was later identified as 52-year-old Darrel Sims of Chicago. Sims did not sustain injuries in the crash but was taken into custody under charges of driving under the influence and multiple moving violations.

No other injuries were reported at the scene. An ongoing investigation into the crash is being managed by local law enforcement officials.

Our thoughts are with the injured victim and his family at this time. We hope for a full recovery.
