Chicago, IL (August 5, 2020) – One person was injured after a fiery car accident in the Chicago area on Monday afternoon, August 3. Reports from the Illinois State Police indicated that the crash occurred on the northbound lanes of the Dan Ryan Expressway (Interstate 94) near W. 79th Street at around 3:30 p.m. Emergency responders were called to the site of the accident to render to those at the scene.
For unknown reasons, two vehicles were stopped in the left lane of the highway when another vehicle failed to stop and rear-ended one of the stopped vehicles. The stopped car caught on fire following the crash. The driver that struck the vehicle fled the scene after the impact.
The driver of the struck vehicle suffered injuries in the crash. At this time, the identity of the driver at fault for the crash has not been released. No further updates on the collision have been disclosed at this time.
An ongoing investigation into the cause of the collision is being conducted by local law enforcement officials, and more information will be released as it continues.
