Motorcycle Crashes in Illinois

Bloomington, IL - Passenger Injured in Deadly Motorcycle Crash on Center St

Riding a motorcycle comes with its fair share of unique risks. Motorcyclists are much more vulnerable to suffering life-threatening injuries in the event of a crash. According to data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, riders are nearly 27 times more likely to be killed in the event of a crash compared to those traveling in passenger cars. Of the nearly 311, 679 reported crashes in Illinois in 2017, only 1.1% involved motorcycle accidents. However, that year, motorcycle crashes were involved in nearly 15.4% of fatal car accidents and 3.5% of crashes resulting in injuries.

Even though motorcyclists are also misrepresented as careless and reckless, statistics show that motor vehicle drivers are more likely to cause serious motorcycle accidents. These cases involve extensive investigation in order to determine who is at fault for the crash, meaning that an experienced legal team is often necessary to construct a strong Illinois personal injury case. Injured parties should reach out to a qualified Illinois motorcycle crash attorney to discuss their legal options before pursuing an Illinois personal injury claim for lost damages.
