Motorcycle Accidents in Illinois

Bartlett, IL - Motorcyclist Injured by Illegal U-Turn on Munger Rd

Motorcyclists are much more exposed to suffering serious injuries in the event of a crash. For that reason and others, motorcycle accidents are over-represented in roadway fatalities across the country. In Illinois, there were 3,756 motorcycle accidents reported in 2011. These collisions resulted in the deaths of 145 riders and more than 3,020 motorcyclists sustaining injuries. Despite only accounting for 1.3% of reported crashes that year, motorcycle accidents accounted for 15.8% of traffic fatalities in the state that year.

Motorcycles are much smaller than other motor vehicles and lack adequate protection for their riders, leaving them at serious risk of injury, and many drivers are constantly distracted by passengers, other drivers, and technology, making them more likely to ignore a motorcyclist and cause a devastating accident. Motorcyclists are at greater risk of suffering life-threatening injuries in the event of an accident, and the resulting damages can change a victim’s life forever. It is important to have someone on your side aggressively representing your rights after being injured in an Illinois motorcycle accident.
