Motorcycle Crashes in Illinois
Motorcycle collisions are over-represented in national roadway fatalities each year. Statistics show that riders are nearly 27 times more likely to suffer fatal injuries in the event of a crash. In 2017, there were 311,679 collisions reported across Illinois. Motorcycle collisions only accounted for roughly 1.1% of reported crashes in the state that year. However, motorcycle accidents were involved in 15.4% of fatal crashes and 3.5% of injury collisions that year.
Motorcycles are much smaller than other motor vehicles and lack adequate protection for their riders, leaving them at serious risk of injury, and many drivers are constantly distracted by passengers, other drivers, and technology, making them more likely to ignore a motorcyclist and cause a devastating accident. Motorcyclists are at greater risk of suffering life-threatening injuries in the event of an accident, and the resulting damages can change a victim’s life forever. It is important to have someone on your side aggressively representing your rights after being injured in a motorcycle crash in Illinois.
